Light pink spot of blood after intercourse

10/22/2007

Question:

I experienced a light pink spot of blood after having inter course with my husband. I was in the position of being on top and felt discomfort with the deep penetration. I had an abdominal and transvaginal ultrasound last week for another reason (turned out the pain was due to a pulled ligament) and all was normal. I also had an internal and my gyno said my cervix looked good. I had a normal Pap less than 6 months ago. Could I have bruised my cervix during the thrusting? I never had spotting at any other time and the spotting stopped immediately.

Answer:

The cervix is very sensitive and any trauma can cause bleeding. As long as it doesn't persist or have associated symptoms of discharge, fever and pelvic pain, it is probably normal.
