High blood pressure or RA10/27/2007 |
Right now my RA is acting up and my neck is bad. I also have high blood pressure and taking two medications for it(Coversyle and Tiazac). I also just started back on Prednsone again after being off of it for three months. I got this pressure in the back of my head. It feels like someone has their hand but on the back of my head where it joints my neck and pushing my head forward. Could this be my blood pressure gone up again or my RA in my neck?
It is difficult to make an assessment without having all the data on a patient. However, a few points can be made:
- Pain, whether acute or chronic, can increase the blood pressure.
- The pain you describe is unlikely to be due to your high blood pressure. High blood pressure can cause headache, but it is usually not located at the base of the skull. Such pain is more likely to be due to your arthritis.
- If your blood pressure stays elevated, i.e. above 130/80, you may want to consider adding a low dose diuretic (e.g. hydrochlorothiazide, 12.5 mg per day) to your regimen. You should speak to your doctor to see if it is appropriate for you.
