Urinary Tract Cancers

Strep in urine

11/07/2007

Question:

Since having chemo 10 years ago, I have had multiple uti problems. I have been on many meds which last for a short time but it always seems to come back. My doctor just called to tell me that I now have strep in my urine. What caused this and how serious is it? Does it mean that I might be getting cancer in my urinary tract?

Answer:

Chronic urinary tract infections are becoming a big problem. No one knows why some individuals have recurrent bladder infections. There are may causes to bladder infections. They do NOT mean recurrent cancer. It would be good to be seen by a urologist and an infection disease doctor.
