Face and Jaw Surgery |
Mobility impairment after jaw surgery01/28/2008 |
I am 26 years old and I had lower and upper jaw surgery, 6 ½ weeks ago. I am lacking some movement on the right top lip and nose (when I make a kissy face my lips and nose kind of scrunch to the left). I thought mobility is not a type of complication that occurs from this surgery. My doctor tells me its scar tissue but she is not really giving me a strait answer. My question is, can this be permanent and if so can it be surgically repaired ?
It is not unusual to have some stiffness and weakness associated with facial muscle movement for sometime. This depends upon the amount of tissue stripping and stretching, swelling stitches, etc. done during surgery. All these movements will recover completely with time. This is NOT due to any nerve damage involving with facial movement.
