Re: root canal on crowned tooth?11/13/2007 |
Can a root canal be performed on a crowned tooth? I have a tooth that is crowned but causing pain when I bite on it. The dentist says it may need a root canal. I did not think you could drill a crowned tooth. The tooth was x-rayed and showed a black area under the crown. Please advise me. Thank you.
Yes, it is possible to do a root canal through a pre-existing crown. If the crown exhibits signs of decay, a new one should be made after the root canal is completed.
