Oral gardnerella11/14/2007 |
Is it possible to contract Gardnerella orally? If so, how would it be treated? My girlfriend was diagnosed with Gardnerella and was treated for it with a vaginal cream. She was tested for Trichomoniasis (which I understand has similar symptoms) and was negative. I occasionally get a very slight fishy smell from my throat, since I have engaged in oral sex with my girlfriend. What are some common treatments for oral Gardnerella? Thanks in advance.
In doing a search of the medical literature, no publications were found regarding oral infection by Gardnerella species. In most cases, organisms such as this occupy a very specific environmental niche in the human body, and they often cannot become established at other anatomic sites.
