From bump to blister on my tongue

11/28/2007

Question:

Hello. I recently felt a bump on the top of my tongue. It felt funny and didn`t look like more than just a bump the size of a lentil. That night it began to hurt; kind of like a burning sensation and every time I pressed my tongue up to the roof of my mouth the pain would go down for a bit. I`m at day 4 now and although there is no bump or pain, where the bump once was there is now a blister. What might it be? Should I stress over it?

Answer:

It would be unusual for something serious to develop on the top of the tongue in such a short period of time. However, without examining the area, it would be impossible to say exactly what is going on. If your tongue doesn't return to normal within a week or so, then you may want to see your dentist or an oral pathologist.
