COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)

What hospitals do the IBV Valve treatments?

12/04/2007

Question:

I have an Aunt who was told by her doctor that she was a canadate for a IBV valve because surgery was out of the question for her. She can barely get up and down now. The closest hospital that he knew that did this was Indianapolis ICU Medical Hospital and was told that they quit for further research, Would you happen to know where the closest hospital she could find to have this done? We live in IN.

Answer:

IU is still one of the participating centers for the IBV study, as well as the Ohio State Medical Center. There has been a waiting period, however, for all of the centers from the end of one phase to the beginning of the next phase. Everyone is in the process of getting started the next phase which is a "randomized trial". You might have contacted them during that waiting period.

You can also call the "Spiration" company (877-547-8839) to find out which centers are taking participants now.
