Seroquel treatment and carcinoid tumors

Question:

I am a cancer survivor (Carcinoid Tumors in the small intestines) and take Seroquel as treatment for Bipolar Disorder (I understand to help sleep and control voices). I am concerned about how Seroquel works, as I understand I should not use medications that could effect Serotonin because of my history with Carcinoid Tumors. Can you provide any information related to this concern?

Answer:

There is very limited potential for exhibiting serotonin syndrome/side effects with quetiapine alone as a treatment, thus one could speculate limited potential for aggravating symptoms in patients with a history of carcinoid tumors.

Upon further review in the literature, I could not find any obvious relationship. As I stated, this could be different with combination therapy.
