Suggestions for Preventing Osteoporosis
My Mum is 61 and has a family history of her mother having Osteoporosis. My Mother had a bone density scan a few years back which was normal but I was wondering the best way for her to prevent Osteoporosis in later life. Would it be beneficial for her to take a Calcium and Vitamin D or magnesium supplement? She has started over 55`s arobics at the gym as she is a little overweight. She is not on HRT.
It is good your mother plans to exercise. Add to that a daily intake of calcium of approximately 1200 mg/day either through food or supplements (no more than 500 mg at a time) and vitamin D intake of 600 IU/day and she should do quite well. If she is smoking, encourage her to quit.
