Vascular Surgery

Varicose veins at a young age...

12/06/2007

Question:

I am 25 years old and have indications of varicose veins on my legs. My right calf has a bulging varicose vein already.I presume these symptoms will worsen with age. Is there anything I can do to improve the condition without surgery?

Answer:

Graduated knee high support stockings with pressures in the 20-30mmHg range worn during the day can go a long way in helping with not only current pain and swelling but also prevent others from developing. Exercise is also very helpful. If you should need surgery, many minimally invasive options exist that do not involve an incision. Good luck!
