Minor bleeding during sex

12/12/2007

Question:

Recently, either during/after sex I had very minor bleeding. It was not heavy and did not continue afterwards. I only noticed a little when I was cleaning up. The reason I am concerned is because about 7 weeks ago I had a LEEP procedure and had precancerous cells removed. However, they said that everything came back normal again and my cells are normal.

So my questions is, why did I bleed? I have had sex since the surgery and it has always been okay, just this time it wasn`t. What do you think?

Thanks!

Answer:

It could still be from the healing of the cervix after the LEEP. Other causes of bleeding after intercourse are infections of the cervix, a cervical polyp or breakthrough uterine bleeding. If it persists, you should seek medical attention.
