Endometriosis in the lungs?

12/20/2007

Question:

I am 23 years old and was diagnosed with endometriosis a little more than a year now. It`s been 8 months since I have been dropped from my dads insurance so I have gone without seeing a gynocologist and having any type of treatment with the exception of 2 trips to the ER because no insurance will cover me. For the past 4 months I have been feeling a build up of blood in my throat at the beginning of my cycle that I have been blowing and coughing up which has been nothin but blood with a little bit of clotting. My recent trip to the ER I was blowing blood through my nose with servere chest pains and all the doctor told me was that it was from the stress of having severe pain and she sent me home with pain meds. I haven`t been able to find much info about endo in the lungs butI was wondering if there is a chance my endometriosis has made it to my lungs and also can you please tell me what all the symptoms are of endo in the lungs? thank you!!

Answer:

Endometriosis of the lungs is very rare. Typically, the only symptom is coughing up blood only during the menses. There are many other causes of coughing up blood other than endometriosis such as bronchitis, polyps, etc. The only way to be diagnosed is to have a pulmonary (lung) specialist do an exam of the lungs and breathing tubes by placing a scope in there. This would only be done if no other causes could be found.
