2 yo boy & have not seen an erection yet01/15/2008 |
My oldest son had a distal hyspospadias repair and a later fistula repair. He has been having erections as long as I can remember (he will be 4 in April). Being very penile aware with him, I have noticed that my second son, who is now 2 years and 2 months old, has not had an erection that I have seen. He was circumsized at birth. He seems to be rather sensitive when I try to clean him. I have talked to my pediatrician and my nurse practitioner mother and both of them say not to worry. I am still concerned that there might be something wrong. What would you suggest I do?
I would not be concerned. Some boys have frequent erections and others do not. But assuming there is not an obvious abnormality or medical condition (e.g., spina bifida), later on erections are fine. In fact, following an uncomplicated circumcision or hypospadias repair, at the 6 week visit some families mention that they have not noticed an erection, but ultimately it is always fine.
