Itch on right thigh

Question:

A year ago I had an itch on my right thigh..Looked like a small thin blue line (smaller than 1/4 inch). The itch occured when i tried to lay on my back to sleep. Laying on my side caused no problems. The Problem went away so I forgot about it.

I bought a bed lounger so i could sleep upright in bed. Now I get an itch (feels like it is maybe a half inch under the outer right thigh) and sometimes I get a few stinging pin pricks. Should I be concerned?

Answer:

This may be secondary to problems with valves in your veins. Sometimes when veins are engorged or distended they itch. I would recommend seeing a vascular surgeon who has an interest in veins.
