Root Canals

Necessity for a root canal

I had the back side of a molar fall off and the dentist is to put a crown on in the future. As of ow he packed it with a medicated solution. He deterimned that the root is 99.8 % dead so I am wondering if it is necessary to have a root canal considering the situation.

I am a little confused about your situation. I am unsure how you would determine that a tooth is 99.8% dead, but if a tooth is "dead" at all that means that there is no longer an adequate nerve and/or blood supply to the tooth and there is an ingress of bacteria and byproducts. When this occurs a root canal is necessary.
