Bleeding and Clotting Disorders

Ruptured vein in foot

01/24/2008

Question:

I apparently ruptured a vein that runs horizontally across the top of my foot, near the ankle. It burns a bit, but there is no other pain. It looks rather unsightly. It appeared after a one-hour dance lesson, but I dance frequently. Is this cause for concern?

Answer:

This should not be anything to worry about. It is likely related to trauma. You can use cold packs for the first 24 hours then heating pads might help healing somewhat. It will most likely heal on its own, but it will take several weeks for the discoloration to completely go away. Nothing really to worry about as it is more of a cosmetic problem.
