Breast infections

01/29/2008

Question:

I am 37 years old and a few months ago I went in to have my very first mammogram. The results were that everything was fine except for a lump in my right breast. A few months later I developed a infection in my right breast. I went to the doctor and got some antibiotics. Well, now the swelling went down but my breast is itching, and peeling, and I am still getting twinges of pain shooting through both of my breasts.

Answer:

I'm glad you had a mammogram and are taking such good care of yourself! I strongly recommend that you go to see your provider right away about the itchy, peeling place on your breast. This can be a symptom of a serious condition and needs to be looked at by a professional. Although there are many causes for this symptom, it's really important to get it evaluated as soon as possible. Don't wait and try over the counter remedies, they probably won't make musch difference.

Hope this helps.
