Pharmacy and Medications

Is Taking Ibuprofen While on Cephalexin Safe?

02/05/2008

Question:

My son just got a perscription for Cephalexin and I was wondering if he can also take Ibuprofen while on the antibiotic. Thanks

Answer:

There are no documented drug interactions between cephalexin and ibuprofen, nor would we expect one to occur. It is always a good idea to talk to your doctor about over-the-counter medications that you might take with your prescription medicines. Mild gastrointestinal upset may occur as a side effect of both medications. To minimize this risk, you can give them with food.
