A 15 year old boy with GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) lives with his mother. The boy makes all of his own decisions. The parents were told not to force him to go anywhere or do anything for fear that this might increase his anxiety. Even though a child has GAD, doesn`t that child need guidelines and schedules?
Part of a good behavioral treatment program is to challenge the patient to move out of and to extend his/her comfort zone. The issue is to collaborate with the patient to allow this to happen. Doesn’t sound like this patient is currently receiving behavioral treatment.
