Fractured humorous rehabilitation for child02/12/2008 |
My 6 year old son is just a few days away from having his cast removed. He suffered a broken humorous ~8 weeks ago. When I asked the doctor what rehab excercises we should expect to practice daily to regain his strenth and flexibility, he simply looked at me, laughed and said "he`s a boy."What excercises do you recommend?
Functional activities like playing are the best for returning normal strength and range of motion to his arm. Most children will use their arm enough that they do not need formal therapy, however, there is no harm in seeing a therapist one or maybe even two visits to make sure he is getting all his motion back in a reasonable period of time. In the meantime, just encourage him to play. Throwing balls and general outdoor play will encourage him to raise his arm overhead.
