02/19/2008

Question:

What are the long-term effects of Lithium Carbonate?

Answer:

The most common answer to this question is a negative effect on the kidney where the drug is eliminated. Most of these reports are based upon plasma levels that were higher than normal. Generally when taken and monitored effectively, it can be used safely. This drug was first studied in 1949, thus there is significant data on the safety of this agent when used cautiously.
