Breakthrough bleeding

02/18/2008

Question:

I am 25 years old and am experiencing breakthrough bleeding for the first time in my life. I`ve read through your list of topics concerning this and they all regard birth control. I`m not on any. What could this mean?

Answer:

There are a number of reasons why women have breakthrough bleeding. It could be from pregnancy, infection in vaginal/cervical/lining of the uterus, fibroids, hormonal imbalance, or a thyroid issue. It is important that you see your doctor to discuss what it could be. I hope you find the cause soon.
