Low blood pressure03/12/2008 |
My mom is 78 and had a stroke 4 yrs ago. She has always had high blood pressure. I just took her to the doctors and it was 102 not sure what the bottom was. She has been dizzy with diarrhea. The doctor was not concerned but I am. Any feedback would be great. Thanks.
Low blood pressure reduces the risk for stroke in most people. As long as a person is asymptomatic, low blood pressure is not harmful.
However, if a person experiences dizziness or lightheadedness, the low blood pressure needs to be addressed. In the case of your mother, her blood pressure medication should probably be reduced or stopped, and her blood pressure closely monitored. Her ideal blood pressure is probably in the range of 120 systolic (the upper number).
