`Normal` vaginal discharge

02/25/2008

Question:

I am a 26 year old woman who has daily vaginal discharge. I`ve had it for at least as long as I`ve been getting my period. I use around 4-6 panty liners a day. The discharge is heavy enough to the point that if I did not wear them I would ruin all of my underwear and I would walk around all day feeling as though I had soiled myself. The amount of discharge hasn`t changed much in the last 14 years. I`ve never had an issue with it causing foul odor or itching. As of recently, the "unsexiness" of wearing a panty liner all of the time has begun to affect my sex life with my boyfriend. Is there any way to lessen the flow or amount of the discharge in order to not have to wear them 24/7?

Answer:

I would highly encourage you to go see your doctor for evaluation, if not done yet. I hope your Pap smear testing is up to date including possible infection causing women to have increase vaginal discharge. From what you've noted, infection seems not to be the cause. However, if this is the norm with you, there may not be a lot of solutions.
