Colon Cancer

Tubular adenoma

I was diagnosed with a Tubular adenoma. My symptoms rectal bleeding almost always after a stool. I was given a sigmoidoscopy because I insisted since colon cancer runs in my family. My test result came back from a polyp biopsy and I was told that it is not cancerous and that I do not need to have another test done in 5yrs. From reading articles I got the impression that I should have a colonoscopy in 1 yr. and if things are the same then I can wait 3 yrs. Is this considered to be a pre-cancerous condition? and should I insist in a colonoscopy in 1 year instead of a sigmoid in 5 yrs. Thanks for your help!

If the polyp was an adenoma then most GI physicians repeat colonoscopy in 1 or 2 years; repeat colonoscopy in 5 years is reasonable if there were no polyps at all.
