Changes To The Thyroid After Ablation04/24/2008 |
Fifteen years ago I had my thyroid ablated because of hyperthyroidism. Over the last several years my thyroid has fluctuated. Recently I had a thyroid ultrasound. There was calcification and my thyroid was very small. It was my understanding that my thyroid was only partially ablated, leaving more than just a small amount of my thyroid. Also is calcification at this point in time something to be concerned about. I was told it was caused by the ablation. Is that true? Does the thyroid shrink over time after it is ablated?
Thank you.
Yes, you can see changes like this in the thyroid after ablation. You should see an otolaryngologist who is familiar with thyroid disorders.
