Should Fosamax be Stopped if a Fracture Occurs?
I have a diagnosis of osteoporosis. I am 64 years old and last week broke my pubic rami falling off a bike. I have received conflicting advice on when to start and stop taking Fosamax again. Would it interfere with natural healing at the time of a fracture. I want to get this right. Many thanks.
Generally it is not recommended that someone stop taking Fosamax when a fracture occurs. On the other hand, if the fracture has not healed after an extended period of time, some MDs might suggest you stop the medication to see if that has any impact.
