Resume Androgel

03/14/2008 03:34PM

Question:

I have very low testosterone or none at all and have been on Androgel for about 6 months. PSA test revealed a spike from last PSA test. Doctors found I had prostate cancer and stopped the androgel immediately. Prostate was removed. Six months later, doctor gave me a prescription to resume Androgel if I wanted to be sexually active again. Age 66. Is there a risk inolved in resuming Androgel treatment?

Answer:

It would depend on your pathology and if your doctor feels everything (all the cancer) was removed. It is reasonable to resume under certain circumstances, but I would recommend a complete discussion with your doctor first.
