Inflamed taste bud and phantom taste

03/18/2008

Question:

I`ve had what appears to be an inflamed taste bud on the very tip of my tongue for at least a week now. It`s not particularly painful, yet what concerns me is the phantom taste of salt, and sometimes sweet, that accompanies it.

Is this unusual? Should I be concerned/visit my doctor, or will it clear up by itself? Thanks

Answer:

Avoid extremely hot and spicy foods, try not to irritate or bite it and give it two weeks to heal.  If it does not heal in two weeks, I suggest you see your regular dentist.
