Upper thigh swelling

04/16/2008

Question:

I have had no accident, or sport injury. My upper, inner and front thighs just swelled one night. I have no pain or redness. I am able to walk, etc. – function very well.

What could have caused this? What can I do about this.

Could it be blood accumulating? A hernia? Gout?

Answer:

These symptoms could represent femoral hernias, although bilateral occurrence at the same time would be unusual.  A “blood accumulation” or hematoma would most likely be painful and discolored.  Gout would not cause symptoms in this area and is a painful condition.  Without an examination, it is impossible to say for certain what is causing your symptoms.  I would recommend a physician evaluation with examination to accurately determine the cause of your symptoms and an appropriate treatment course.
