What is cortical cyst?

03/27/2008

Question:

In my ultrasound result, my kidney measures 9.1 x 4.13 with cortical thickness of 1.59 cm. while left kidney is 9.8 x 4.78 with cortical thickness of 1.69 cm. Both show increased echotexture, more in left. There is 2.38 x 1.96 x 1.75 cm hypoechoic structure at the midportion of the left kidney probably cortical cyst. What could be the possible reason and medication on that cortical cyst?

Answer:

Finding a renal cyst on ultrasound is very common and the incidence of renal cysts increases with age. Majority of these cysts are benign. If the renal cyst has the features of benign cyst, no further evaluation is needed.
