Orange colored menstrual blood04/04/2008 |
I have a copper IUD ... I`ve had it for abt 4yrs. My past cycle I was abt a week late. Now, having an IUD, I am used to having abnormal periods (ie, late, long, spotting before and after cycles, etc) but this time it seems strange. I spotted for abt a 3-5 days after I was already a week late. Then I had a period which lasted only abt 5 days (again nt normal for me..i usually spot for abt 5 days and then have a normal period that last ne where from 5-8 days) but it was light very light and my blood was ORANGE colored?!?!?! It was during the whole 5 days it was like this but more noticeable abt the the last 2 or 3. I have also experienced a lot of breast tenderness (i know this can be expected) but the last time i had this symptom i was pregnant...ive been off my cycle for almost a week, and my breast are still sore and feel enlarged. I thought it might have been pregnancy at first but i have taken several test and they are all negative. I also feel as tho I am still bloateD?!?!? I have no clue what might be goin on with my body...again, i am used to crazy cycles bc i have had them for the last 4yrs since i got my IUD but this one is off my wierdness charts. Please help!!!!
Irregular bleeding can occur for a number of reasons, some of which may be totally unrelated to the IUD. Bleeding can occur between periods due to hormonal factors, infection, irritation from the IUD, pregnancy, or an abnormal growth such as polyp or dysplasia. If you have not already had an exam for these issues, you should see your physician to identify the cause.
A rare sort of infection that can occur in women with an IUD is a condition called actinomycosis. This particular organism can form "sulfur granules" that might appear as a yellow or orange discharge. If you are continuing to see an orange discharge, you should have an exam for this condition as well.
