Taking yorurt when having diarrhea

04/05/2008 11:06PM

Question:

Does giving curd (yogurt) help in reducing diarrhea. My 14 month old son is having diarrhea since yesterday. He is pooping 4 to 5 times a day and it has mucus in it and has a very foul smell too. His pediatrician has asked us to give him pedialite. When I asked him if we could give him homemade yogurt he said he thinks it is fine. So now I`m confused. Do you think taking yogurt will help in reducing diarrhea?

Answer:

Yes, taking yogurt may help with reducing diarrhea, unless the diarrhea is due to infection or toxic food elements.
