I have been itching for months now
I have been itching for months now. It`s not all day or every day, but when I scratch my skin immediately welts and doesnt go away for 5 mins or so. Also when I scratch it itches even worse and I cant ignore it. When I try to my muscles react if I dont scratch, then I cant stop scratching.
It sounds like you have dermatographism which is a physical form of hives called "to write on skin." This, coupled with dry skin, can lead to an itch-scratch cycle like you are describing. I would recommend aggressive moisturization twice a day and to take an antihistamine like loratidine 10 mg to raise the itch threshold response. You should also see an allergist experienced in the evaluation and treatment of itching and hives to exclude other underlying conditions as well.
