Stopping Fosamax For Oral Surgery05/27/2008 |
I have been on Fosamix for 9 and 1/2 year and need dental surgery. My oral surgeon has advised me to take a Serum CTX #17406 blood test to determine if surgery can be done without ill effects. A drug holiday may be needed for 3 months or six months until levels are normal. Is it safe to stop Fosamix? Should I go off it completely?
There should be no problem stopping Fosamax for 6-12 months after you have been on it for 9 years. Continue your calcium and vitamin D and exercise.
