Flecks of Color

04/13/2008 07:13PM

Question:

I have just noticed that I have several dark flecks of color in my right eye. My eye color is blue so they stand out. but i recently had an eye exam and the eye doctor didn`t even bring them up. Should I worry? Are flecks like this normal. Also is there a difference between having freckles on your eye and having scattered flecks of color?

Answer:

Most likely the dark flecks of color in the eye are tiny freckles of the iris. Freckles for the most part are benign; however, they do have the potential to become malignant.

The best advice I can give you is to discuss your concerns with your eye care specialist. At the start of every examination, talk with your doctor about any changes that you have noticed; this way you ensure that your concerns are addressed during the examination.

Best of luck to you.
