Can Hoodia be Taken with Lamictal, Tamoxifin, and Ambien?

04/24/2008

Question:

Can I take Hoodia if I am taking Lamictal, Tamoxifin and Ambien? Ambien is occasional.

Answer:

Hoodia is a succulent plant that grows in the Kalahari Desert. A specific part of hoodia is thought to cause appetite suppression. No interactions with hoodia and lamictal and tamoxifen and ambien have been reported. However, hoodia has not been widely studied with other drugs. Safety and reliability information on hoodia is lacking. News reports suggest that some hoodia products sold over the Internet contain no actual hoodia. Self treatment with an unregulated and unapproved herbal preparation is at your risk.

If you are using hoodia for appetite suppression, talk to you doctor about other options that may help you.
