Ear, Nose, and Throat Disorders

Nostril pain

04/21/2008 04:26PM

Question:

I have serious pain in my left nostril, very sensitive to the touch. It hurts on the outside and inside of the nostril. I make popcorn two days per week for 2.5 hours per day and noticed it approximately 3 weeks ago. The pain is consistent. I`ve hot packed and applied antibiotic ointment inside my nose to no relief. Any suggestions? I have had only one nosebleed in three weeks which was not considerable.

Answer:

Pain in the nostril as you described is often due to an underlying infection. Supportive care with prescription topical antibiotics usually resolves the pain. If over the counter medications have not been effective, I would recommend an evaluation by an ENT physician.
