Peri-rectal infection

Question:

I recently had surgy on what I was told to be a Peri-rectal Infection. I was hospitalized for one week while the insession was kept open with a gause packing. I am back at work and some people here are saying it is contagious. I think it is not contagious. Can you help me clear this up?

Answer:

It is not contagious unless you had Staph resistant to antibiotics, or another resistant organism. In any case, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after dressing changes.
