Hypoechoic mass superior to uterus

04/29/2008 05:58PM

Question:

I had a sonogram (vaginal) and findings read there is a hypoechoic mass superior to the uterus mearusring 4.8x3.2x3.8 c.m. This does not appear to attatch to the uterus and does have color flow. The right ovary is separate from this and measures 2.5x1.7x2.0 cm The left ovary is not visualized. No ree fluid collection is seen. Under the impression is stated solid mass superior to uterus as sescribed above and requires further evaluation as it ould represent lymphadenopathy or metastasis. Further evaluation could be obtained from ann MRI of the pelvis. I am scheduled for CT. Can you give me further informaion on undertanding what this means. Is this likely cancer? I really need to know, my Mom just passed from colon cancer and my Dad just moved in with me and diagnosed with appendiceal cancer that spread to his abdomen. I am 35 years old and survived childhood leukemia. Please provide insight for me. THANK YOU!

Answer:

Unfortunately, I can't provide any additional information regarding what this mass could be. It could be a fibroid coming off the uterus, it could be a cyst unrelated to the genital tract. The MRI and CT scan might better define what it is, but it may take surgical exploration and removal to know.
