05/05/2008 09:32AM

Question:

My son has chronic hives, he is now 36 and has had them for over 15 years. He has been to 2 allergists, a dermatologist, a family dr. Nothing seems to work on him, he has had prescription drugs for hives but they tend to work little or not at all. He takes Benedryl through the day. They tend to get worse as the day goes on. the allergist says his are an allergy. What do you think.

Answer:

Chronic hives lasting this long are difficult to treat. There are several U.S. centers that have new approaches to this problem. Your current allergist should be able to assist you in obtaining an appropriate referral.
