Question:
I am 28 years old and had pain in the right breast. ultrasound report read: a cyst was present in the area of concern and a hypoechoic nodule was found in the retroareolar region that could be solid in nature. I am going for a mammogram. Is this something of concern??Please help me understand these results.
Answer:
Usually ultrasound is more accurate than mammogram in a person as young as you. The ultrasound should be able to define the problem and the level of risk. The cyst is of no concern as long as it is a simple cyst. The hypoechoic nodule is probably also non-cancer but only the radiologist who did the ultrasound can tell you that for certain.
