Question:

If My 11yr old daughter wears her silver earrings for more than one day, when she takes them out the holes are black. She does not have any swelling, redness or itching. What is causing this? She can not wear cheap earrings due to the fact of itching. The black goes away slowly with alcohol, but I don`t know what to do. Please help.

Answer:

This is mostly due to an interaction between chemicals (secretions) on the skin and her silver earrings. If she does not develop a rash or itching, it is nothing to worry about.
