Kidney tests

05/16/2008

Question:

I have a blood test every six weeks to check my Bun and Creatine levels because the medication that I am taking can damage my kidneys. My family doctor thought that I might have kidney stones so he sent me for a urine test and a KUB x-ray. I have not received the results of the test from my family doctor yet. I still have back pain and stomach pains. If those test and my regular 6 week test come back ok, does that mean that there is nothing wrong with my kidneys and maybe the pain is more muscle pain?

Answer:

Please see the link below to our kidney pain article; this describes typical kidney pain, as well as musculoskeletal pain, and may help you to decide if your pain fits either description.  I cannot answer your question beyond this, but may be able to provide more answers if you care to send more information -- your age, gender, the results of your BUN and creatinine tests, the name of the medication that you are taking that may be damaging to your kidneys, and the reason that you are taking that medication.

In any case, do not hesitate to call your doctor and ask them to discuss the results of your blood tests, urine test, and x-ray with you!
