Would Rheumatoid Arthritis Affect the Lower Back?

06/05/2008

Question:

I have read conflicting things on weather Rheumatoid Arthritis can affect the lower back. I have had RA for 4.5 years and recently developed lower back pain. I already have RA in my neck and pretty much every where else. Can RA effect the lower back?

Answer:

Rheumatoid Arthritis usually does not affect the lower back. It does not affect the spine except in the neck.
