Pharmacy and Medications

Is it Safe to Take Adderall and Adipex Together?

06/02/2008

Question:

I am currently on Adderal XR 30 mg once a day. I was prescribed Adipex recently. I want to know if it is safe to take both medications? Thank you.

Answer:

Thank you for your question.

Adderall is a product that contains a mixture of amphetamines. Adipex is a product that contains phentermine. Phentermine has similar effects on the body as the amphetamines do.

Taking both of these medications together may elevate your heart rate and blood pressure, you may feel irritable, jittery and uncomfortable. You may also have a hard time sleeping at night.

Talk to your doctor and pharmacist to make sure this is a combination that is OK for you.
