How Long do Aricept and Namanda Work?05/30/2008 |
My grandma is 90 years old and has been on Aricept for approximately 8 years and Namanda for about 6 years. Lately it seems like there is no quality of life, so we were thinking of taking her off these two drugs. Is there a time period when they no longer work?
They will work less and less effectively for Alzheimer's disease as the disease progresses. If she is still able to talk and perform basic activities like helping to feed herself, toilet herself, and dress herself, than the drugs may still be useful. If she needs total care, it is usually time to speak to her doctor to consider withdrawing them.
