My baby, 3 years old, has only one kidney on the right side - no left kidney. There is a very tiny piece of kidney and also she has cysts on the left side of the kidney. My consultant tells me that the cysts and the small piece of kidney on lthe left side should dissipate without taking anything. Can this happen? Please help me. Thanks.
Yes--it sounds like your baby has a , which is not a serious condition. The kidney does not function, but the fluid generally disappears. The main potential health consequence is that high blood pressure may develop, so the blood pressure should be checked every year. Having a single kidney is common, and these individuals lead normal healthy lives with few restrictions.
