Long menstrual cycle, pregnant?

05/28/2008

Question:

I have had normal cycles allmy life. After having my daughter and going off birthcontrol my cycles continued being relatively normal, but this month I have been lightly bleeding for two weeks. I am not on birth control and am wondering if I need to take a pregnancy test or see a doctor?

Answer:

You should definitely have a pregnancy test done. Irregular bleeding can occur for many reasons. However, it is important that you find out if you are pregnant. Persistent bleeding in early pregnancy can sometimes indicate an abnormal pregnancy. If you are pregnant, you should see your health care provider as soon as possible for further evaluation.
